Right, here is what I have been up to recently:
Last Tuesday evening, I attended a meeting of the Blackpool Carnival 2017 organising committee.
This carnival will be centred around South Beach and will be a festival of music, dance and food from around the world. It is shaping up really nicely and the organisers seem to be working at a pace. Click the link below to like their Facebook page to keep up to date.
Then on Wednesday evening, I had a catch up meeting with Cllr Amy Cross regarding a recent scrutiny meeting looking at The Harbour mental health facility and then I dashed off to a Police and Communities Together (PACT) meeting at St Peter’s Church.
A large portion of the PACT meeting was taken up discussing the parking scheme around Lytham Road. Essentially, we had large numbers of objections to the area wide scheme when we took it out to consultation and we have had to abandon a one size fits all approach to parking across the area.
However, we ARE looking at the situation on a street by street basis and we will be introducing mini-schemes depending on the needs of the street. We are actively on with this, so I will keep you posted.
Officers took away queries regarding speeding and dumping from the meeting and I have taken away a query regarding Neighbourhood Watch issues to action.
Also last week I attended a meeting of the North West Strategic Scrutiny Network.
This group is made of of councillors and council officers involved in scrutiny functions in councils across the north west and it is designed to be a forum to share best practice and knowledge. This particular meeting focused on health issues, so as chair of the Blackpool Council Health Scrutiny Committee, I of course found this useful.
A few days ago, I attended a training session run by a company called Local Giving on online fundraising. This company specialise in raising funds for charities and community groups online. If any of you reading this would like to me to put you in touch with this organisation, then click the link below for more info – they seemed very on the ball.
Over the weekend, I attended the Labour Party North West Regional Conference at the Hilton Hotel here in Blackpool. It was a very pleasant event with lots of decent, clever, caring people in attendance. I do think that we have turned a corner now as a party after a less than brilliant year.
Tomorrow, I will be attending the Memory Lane Cafe at Ibbison Court – these are some of the nicest people in the ward and I am looking forward to catch up with them.
I will also be sitting on the Licensing Committee tomorrow evening before a very, very loooooonnnnng drive. But more on the reasons for that on my next blog!
Drop by soon,
