Sorry for the terrible pun, but it’s the best that I can do at this point in the week. It refers to the fact that I attended my first council audit committee meeting last night.
I must confess to being utterly in the dark about what the audit committee until I became a councillor a few weeks ago. I had it in my head that it was all about auditing the finances of the council.
However, the scope of the committee is much wider. It basically audits council processes rather than just finance. E.g. last night, there was an agenda item considering a progress report on individual risks identified in the Council’s Strategic Risk Register with regards to reputational damage.
If you think about it, there are many, many things that could cause a negative image of Blackpool in the media and reputational damage to the council. The report was an overview on what the council can do to mitigate this.
After the council officers gave their report, the council members then questioned them to address any concerns that had occurred to them.
As per the heading, I did rather enjoy the meeting – please click the link below to access the agenda.
Anyway, I’m off the the Grand Theatre in a mo to see the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of A Midsummer Nights Dream (with part of the cast being amateurs – I work with one of them).
As ever, drop by soon,
